About the tour

This tour aims to explore the creative depth of the English language through its writers, poets and playwrights. Students will begin by practising and applying real West End choreography routines and stage combat techniques taught by professional dancers and actors. Then on to the historic Roman town of Bath to explore the life and work of Jane Austen; dressing up in regency costume, writing with a quill pen and immersing themselves in England's Georgian period. In addition, students will visit the home of Charles Dickens as it was 150 years ago and take part in a workshop that investigates the author, his work, his famous characters and the Victorian period that inspired his greatest novels. At The British Library, students will see, first hand, a collection of some of the world's most valuable written material, including Leonardo Da Vinci's notebooks, Shakespeare's manuscripts and the original issue of the Magna Carta. Students will be immersed in all things Shakespeare, from the Globe Theatre in London to his childhood home in Stratford upon Avon and examine his work through customized workshops led by literature academics, culminating in a performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
