UK | Music and Performing Arts Tour

The UK Music and Performing Arts Study Tour was created specifically to support and extend the students’ knowledge, experience and interest in the field of music, theatre and performing arts. All this while taking full advantage of the history and culture of London, Oxford and Stratford upon Avon. Students began the tour by immersing themselves in a range of unique and engaging activities that furthered their interest in theatre. This included performances at the West End and the Royal Shakespeare Company, complemented by workshops and activities led by professionals in order to contextualise the performance of The Taming of the Shrew. Moreover, the students were led on a historic journey from Shakespeare’s birthplace to the famous stage of London’s Globe Theatre. From audience to participant, the students showed energy and enthusiasm when learning dance routines from the Lion King and stage combat techniques from the West End professionals themselves, taking time to question and discuss their experiences whilst working within the industry. Each day was also seen as an opportunity to explore the sights and tastes of British culture and cuisine. From Buckingham Palace and views atop the London Eye, from castles to cathedrals, classic dishes like fish and chips and pie and mash to a delectable indulgence of tea and scones, each activity was designed to take full advantage of everything “wonderfully British”. Finally, the tour concluded with time dedicated to exploring music; contrasting the classical, through a workshop at the Royal Academy of Music, to the modern application of composition and arrangement using the latest version of logic digital audio software culminating in the production by each student of a unique piece of music. The tour aims to expose, explore and nurture students' interest in the creative fields. Encouraging them to engage with the local people against a backdrop of historical, cultural and vibrant London.
